Berry Banana Smoothie

This is a simple, delicious smoothie, perfect for breakfast.  Made with bananas, mixed berries (mine has raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries), yogurt, carrot juice, and honey, it is super easy and super yummy!  For those of you thinking “carrot juice? gross!” – trust me, you won’t taste it much.  It adds liquid to the smoothie (so you can drink it, not eat it, as well as to help the blender out a bit) without adding extra sweetness (which, trust me, this smoothie has plenty of already!).  If you absolutely can’t stand the thought of having carrot juice in your smoothie, however, feel free to replace it with milk, water, or another kind of juice that you do like.  Actually, feel free to replace anything you want!  If you don’t like raspberries, don’t use them!  Smoothies are very flexible that way!

One thing that I will say I don’t like about the mixed berry blend that I use is that there tends to be a lot of seeds in it.  This is possibly preventable (though I don’t know how…), or possibly something that I’ll just have to learn to live with.  Berries have seeds, it’s just life.

In terms of how much ice to use, it depends on a lot of things.  The size of your ice cubes (obviously), the power of your blender, and whether or not your fruit is frozen.  If you’re not confident that your blender has the power necessary to pulverize the ice really well, then you may not want to use any.  If you are using fresh, not frozen fruit (good for you!), you may want to put in a few more ice cubes.  I usually use around 8 medium-size cubes.
